The economic growth and development activities witnessed under the present government are directed to benefit the common man. Protection of Consumers therefore surfaces among the priorities. In the recent past, promulgation of Consumer Protection Consumer Ordinance, Sindh, was one of the long felt needs in the country. The establishment of the Council, a pioneer step, will foster the cause of the consumer and encourage legitimate trade in the society.
The government is cognizant of the facts that awareness on consumer related issues is very low and consumer rights are frequently violated. The unscrupulous is very low and consumer rights are frequently violated. The unscrupulous elements in the society are thriving by trading and profiteering through sub-standard and fake goods. Such anti-social elements also pose risk to the health and safety of the public. On the other hand, the consumers do not have any easy resource to remedies against these anti-social elements. The establishment of Consumer Rights Council will help raise awareness on Consumer Protection, and will provide a forum for the consumer to raise the voice and seek remedial action in cases of violation of consumer rights. The Government of Sindh is determined to curb with an iron hand and is committed to support the Council in its mission. I am taking personal interest in this cause and for the same reason I have agreed to be the Patron of the Consumer Rights Council. With the active help and cooperation of the citizens the Council will be able menace of profiteering and hoarding as well as the sale of sub-standard and spurious goods from the society.
I feel very happy to learn that Consumer Rights Council is now launching a new website to facilitate and raise awareness on the Consumer Issues, and wish the website all success in the noble mission.
